Our approach

Our overall goal for the teaching is to support our learners in acquiring Danish language competences that enable them to function effectively on the labour market, in the education system, and as active citizens

Our pedagogical principles

Our pedagogical approach is based on a functional view of language. This means that we see language as a resource that can be used to act and interact in the world, for example by performing different types of speech acts such as requesting something, explaining something, or making a complaint.

The focus of our pedagogical practice is functionality, understood as ‘successful communication’. In practice, this means that we place strong emphasis on building vocabulary, including context‑appropriate word choices as well as accurate pronunciation and morphological and syntactic control, namely grammar. When we teach pronunciation and grammar, it is always from the perspective that pronunciation and grammatical skills are not goals in themselves, but rather prerequisites for successful communication.

Classroom teaching with activities

In our classroom teaching, we prioritise activities that encourage genuine and authentic communication, including pair and group activities. Based on our experience and supported by research,  we know that these types of activities effectively support the building, development, and consolidation of language that can be used in practice.
