Economy for businesses

International employees who have lived in Denmark for less than 5 years are entitled to free Danish language courses. If the employees have lived in Denmark for more than 5 years, they are generally no longer entitled to free Danish language courses.

Financial support for employees attending Danish courses

Companies and institutions with international employees who participate in a Danish language programme have the opportunity to apply for financial support.

The State Educational Support for Adults (SVU) is a grant scheme for adults who undertake education during working hours. As an employer, you can apply for reimbursement of expenses related to a Adult Preparatory Education programme (FVU) and Danish language programmes.

Either the employee receives SVU as compensation for their salary, or you as the employer receive SVU as compensation for the loss of labour.

The main conditions for applying for SVU are:

  • The applicant must be at least 20 years old.
  • The applicant has been employed by the current employer for a minimum of 6 months.
  • The education must consist of a minimum of three lessons per week and must take place during working hours.
